  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.

  AUB is accredited in the US by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and includes six faculties: Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture, Agricultural and Food Sciences, Health Sciences, and Business. AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

Re-Imagining Citizenship in the Arab Region Conference and Leadership Forum

The AUB Global Engagement Initiative is proud to co-organize the Re-Imagining Citizenship in the Arab Region Conference, taking place on September 5–6, 2026, at the American University of Beirut. Bringing together scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and regional experts, the conference will examine changing understandings of citizenship through discussions on governance and civic engagement, reform, education and active citizenship, and the experiences of refugees, migrants, and displaced communities.

The conference will be followed on September 7 by the Leadership Forum on Public Affairs Education, an invitation-only convening for deans, department chairs, and graduate program directors shaping the future of MPA and MPP education in the Middle East. The forum will provide a space for practical exchange on curriculum development, recruitment, student and career services, stakeholder engagement, faculty development, and institutional leadership.
